December 16th, 2018 Hornet Happenings

Big picture

December 16th, 2018

The PTO would like to give an extra shout out to a few committee chairs who organized some of the key activities so far this school year. For the second year, Stephanie DeNicola has run our Attractions Book Fundraiser. Her efforts helped raise a significant portion of our PTO funds for the year. Also for the second time, Shannon DeSalvo created the Hollymead Directory. Shannon designed, created the layout and revamped the advertising price structure. For the third year in a row, Shannon Hall and Terumi Hong organized a day of giving back to the community through Hollymead Hornet Helper day. This year students made blankets for people served by the International Rescue Committee, and decorated rocks for the The Kindness Rocks Project/Cville ROCKS. Our very successful and popular Young Entrepreneurs Night was coordinated by Kathy Hines and Bethany Teachman, their third year working on this event. A huge thank you to these volunteers who continue to help the Hollymead PTO and our school community year after year.

With the snow earlier this week and holidays almost here, our thoughts turn gratefully to those who have contributed to the success of Hollymead! Thank you for all you have done for our children and our staff this year. The PTO is made up of volunteers who work hard all year long and we thank you for being a part – big and small. Best wishes for the holiday season and we look forward to seeing you in 2019!

Come join us for our Winter 2019 session of French Club! We will continue building a French city, including a house (rooms, furniture, people), a stadium (Les Bleus – 2018 World Cup winners!), stores (clothing, etc), and more! Learning French through games and fun!

Session registration is $150 for 10 club meetings, to be held on Mondays from 2:40-3:40pm. French club will begin on January 14th and run through April 8th. To register and pay for French Club, please turn in the registration form (flier was sent home in Thursday folders), as well as a check for $150 (made to HES PTO) or cash in a sealed envelope.

The cold winter season is upon us, and students are coming to school with extra layers of fleeces, coats, gloves, and hats. On your next visit to Hollymead, please remember to stop by the Lost & Found (outside of the cafeteria) to look for any lost items. Any remaining items in the Lost & Found on Wednesday (the start of Winter Holiday) will be packed up and donated to the local Goodwill.

As you order your holiday cards and stationary, please keep the Hollymead PTO in mind! We have two new fundraising opportunities, first with Shutterfly, and the second with Tiny Prints.

For each purchase you make from either one of these brands, 13% will be donated to our organization.
