October 10

Hello, Hollymead Hornets!

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the PTO during our first Dining Night Out of the 2021-22 school year! We had a great turnout despite the light rain, and we loved seeing everyone as we collected our delicious pizzas and popsicles. Special thanks to our sponsors for this event: Popitos and La Flor Michoacana!

A few scheduling reminders: We do have school Monday, October 11. October 13th is a half day for students. The afternoon will be professional development for teachers. Also, teachers are in the process of scheduling parent-teacher conferences. Make sure to check your email or check with your teacher for sign-up information.

Although we’re still unable to hold many of our traditional fall events due to COVID restrictions, we are planning on hosting or supporting a few fun activities over the next few months, including classroom pumpkin decorating, an outdoor movie night, and Hollymead CARES Day. We’ll be sending out more information about these events as we get closer to them. Please also remember that our Board meets on the first Wednesday of each month, and these meetings are a great way to learn about the ways in which the PTO is supporting the Hollymead community, as well as voice your suggestions about community events. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, November 3rd at 7:30 PM (these meetings are virtual until further notice, and the link is at the bottom of this email). We hope to see everyone there!

Field Day!

Happy last week of school! We are so excited to celebrate our students’ successes this week as they prepare to finish out the school year and head into the summer. As we wrap up the year, there are several people that we want to be sure to thank for all the support they have given Hollymead throughout the years. Please join us in thanking the following individuals who will be moving on to new adventures next year:

  • Alison Agarwal and Shannon Hall who have served as Hospitality Chairs for Hollymead for several years. Thank you for making sure our staff has always felt appreciated, especially over the past few years.
  • Nicole Felini and Kristen Jones for coordinating all of the awesome Dining Nights Out we’ve had over the past few years. We have enjoyed gathering as a community to support both Hollymead and local businesses; thank you for all of the wonderful experiences you have coordinated!
  • Vanitha Perumal for coordinating the Scholastic Book Fair for several years. This has always been a highlight of the school year, and you have always done such a tremendous job making it an enjoyable experience for everyone involved (even as a virtual event during COVID!).
  • Crystal Pariseau, Sara Harrison, Kate DeLuca, Marion Hight, and Vanitha Perumal (yes, again!) who are stepping down from their PTO Board positions for the next school year. Thank you for all you have done to support the PTO over the past few years. We could not have kept things running without each of you.
  • And finally, Mr. Dommer–thank you for being supportive of the PTO and a true partner in helping to foster such a wonderful sense of community for our students, staff, families, and caregivers.

We are sincerely grateful to all of you for your support, and we will miss you all next year!

Finally, we wanted to extend a final “thank you” to all of the volunteers that have helped make this year feel as “normal” and fun as possible. Thank you for your time, your generosity, and your support across the past year. We look forward to seeing most of you back for the 2022-2023 school year. And for those who are moving on from Hollymead this year, we wish you all well!

We hope everyone has a safe, happy, and healthy summer. And, as always–Go Hornets!

We are coming into the home stretch of the school year, and we are excited about all the fun activities planned for our students in these final weeks. Check out this week’s Buzz, the school newsletter, for more information about School Wide Morning Meeting, Field Day, Class Placement Surveys, and more.

As a reminder, we will be hosting our last Board Meeting of the year on Tuesday, May 31st at 7:00 PM at Hollymead. We will also have a virtual option available through our regular Zoom link. We have several Board positions open for next year, so if you are interested in joining the PTO, this meeting will be a great way to meet current Board members and ask questions!

We’ve wrapped up our after school clubs for the year. Thank you to our volunteers Katie Arostegui and Carolina Lopez for hosting Cheer Club and Yoga Club. The kids loved it!

Once again, thank you to everyone for your support this year.

March 28

We hope everyone enjoyed—or stayed safely away from—the crazy winter-like weather we had this weekend. While it kept us from holding our outdoor Talent Show on Saturday, we are so grateful to all of the parents, caregivers, volunteers, and—of course—talented Hollymead students who pulled together to make sure the show happened on Sunday. The students worked so hard in rehearsals throughout March, and we enjoyed watching them perform their incredible acts in front of their families and adoring fans! A big thank you to everyone who came to watch or helped set up for the Talent Show, and a very special thank you to our Talent Show Chair Katie Arostegui for planning such an amazing show!

A few reminders for this coming week:

  • Please join us for our Dining Night Out at Torchy’s Tacos on Wednesday, March 30th. Don’t forget to bring your flyer to ensure that a portion of the sales goes to benefit Hollymead! (Also, parents and caregivers—please be aware that Torchy’s menu has some colorful descriptions of some of their entrees; we encourage you to check out the menu ahead of time to ensure that your family has a good experience!)
  • April 1st is a half-day for students (so it will not be an April Fool’s joke when your child tells you they’ll only be in school for half of the day!).
  • Spring Break starts on April 2nd and runs through April 10th.
  • Our next PTO meeting will be on Wednesday, April 13th (rescheduled from the first Wednesday of the month due to Spring Break).

We hope everyone has a wonderful week and an awesome Spring Break!

Happy February! We hope everyone is enjoying the nice reprieve from winter weather we’ve had this week.

All families and caregivers should have received a copy of the Hollymead Directory in the past few weeks. We’d like to take a moment to thank our Directory volunteers–Tara GoodrichJonelle KinbackRachel Cann, and Kate DeLuca–for putting everything together and making sure that this year’s Directory was such a success! If you see any of these wonderful volunteers around the neighborhood or at school pick up/drop off, please be sure to thank them for all of their time and expertise!

Thank you, as well, to everyone who attended our February Dining Night Out at Skrimp Shack! We love to see everyone coming together to support both Hollymead and a local business. As always, thank you as well for our DNO volunteers Nicole Felini and Kristen Jones for putting the event together!

Finally, please save the date for our next Hollymead Talent Show, which will happen in-person, outside on March 26th (rain date: April 16th). More details will be going home in folders soon!

Wishing everyone a fun-filled weekend of football and Valentines,

Hopefully everyone managed to stay warm during our snow this past weekend; and here’s hoping this is among the last major weather events of the school year!

As January winds to a close we want to extend a massive “thank you” to our amazing Hollymead community for everything everyone is doing to keep our kids safe and in school. From the teachers who keep the kids engaged in the classroom each day, to the staff who brave the cold with our kids during dropoff/pickup and outdoor recess/lunch, to the parents and caregivers who have shown tremendous support for our school during yet another unconventional year, to our kids who enthusiastically show up to school each day–every one of you helps make our community a wonderful, nurturing, caring place in which we all can thrive. Despite the weather and the continued health concerns of the past month, we’re really looking forward to the second half of the school year and the exciting opportunities that we hope will be able to go off as planned!

To that end, Camp4Real is currently in session and is going well so far! In addition, please save the date for our next Hollymead Dining Night Out at Skrimp Shack on February 9th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. More info about this DNO can be found further down in the newsletter.

Also, please remember that we have a PTO Board Meeting on February 2nd at 7:30 PM. We hope you all can join us!

Until then–Go Hornets!

We have a few exciting events planned for the first few months of the year:

  • February 9: Dining Night Out at Skrimp Shack! Thanks to our amazing Dining Night Out chairs, Nicole Felini and Kristen Jones, we will have our next DNO at Skrimp Shack located in the Rio Hill Shopping Center. More details will be coming home in a flier, but please hold the date for February 9th.
