HOLLYMEAD STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK IS COMING

It’s that time of year when we remind our Hollymead Teachers and Staff how much we appreciate them. The 2020/21 school year has been another challenging year for everyone. Our teachers have modified their classrooms and syllabus multiple times this year to accommodate our families preferred options for our children. Our cafeteria staff and bus drivers have been working hard to ensure that our kids are fed and janitorial staff has been making sure that our building and classrooms are clean and safe. In light of this, we have a fun gift planned for the teachers and staff. This year, as in previous years, we would like to be able to provide everyone with a gift card. At minimum, we would like to be able to provide each person with $10 to a local or online store or restaurant. Since this year was exceptionally challenging, we would like to be able to provide a $20 gift card to go along with the PTO provided gifts. This year we have 80 teachers and staff members to provide for.

If you would like to contribute to this effort, you may select any of the options listed:

  • Drop your gift cards at 2776 Peppervine Court
  • Venmo @CoreyHawker with a note that your contribution is for Hollymead Staff Appreciation and I will be happy to pickup gift cards on your behalf.
  • Email or text me to arrange an option that works best for you chawker1@verizon.net or 540-710-3799

The plan is to deliver gifts to the teachers and staff on Friday, May 7th, so please have your gift cards delivered by Sunday, May 2nd.

There will be an opportunity to chalk the sidewalks on Thursday, May 6th if you are looking for a creative way to participate.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Hello again, Hollymead! It was great to see so many families of virtual students at Valentine’s pickup last Friday. Despite the snow, it was great to see our students shower one another with kindness – and treats.

The activities of the PTO depend entirely on volunteers, and we want to say a big thank you to parents Jill Dowling and Megan Haas. Both have volunteered at Hollymead for years to make sure activities including PTO Board and Dining Night Out occur without a hitch. This year they’re the keys to making sure our Hollymead yearbook comes together – no easy task, especially in a year when most students and staff have not been in the building! Please pay special attention to the note below about yearbook deadlines, and say a big thank you to Jill and Megan when you see them.

We are excited to share the new Hollymead Community Support Series. We know this past year has put a lot of stresses on families. We hope that this time to virtually gather, share ideas, and ask questions will increase our sense of community. We will kick of this series from 7-8PM on Tuesday, the 23rd with a COVID Resilience presentation from Region Ten. Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday thereafter we will meet virtually for further conversation. Please see more details and the zoom link below in this newsletter.

Have a great week, Hornets!

PRESIDENTS’ MESSAGE

Hello Hollymead! There has been a lot going on for the PTO this year and we couldn’t be more grateful for the many volunteers who are making it all happen.

The Hollymead Directory was distributed to each family just before the holiday break. We hope it has helped you connect with other families during this odd school year. Please be sure to thank the many local businesses for advertising and helping to finance the directory and support Hollymead. Many thanks go to Jonelle Kinback and Kate DeLuca for their skills and time to produce the directory!

Our staff and teachers are working extra hard this virtual year, and the PTO’s Hospitality Team went above and beyond in organizing a Soup Lunch for them that looked quite different from a typical year. Thanks to Shannon Hall and Allison Agarwal for organizing the Revolutionary Soup delivery, and to the many families who donated cash to offset the costs and individually wrapped goodies.

We hope you enjoy the offerings of our Hollymead Talent Show. Many thanks to Marion Hight for organizing and producing the video. It is so fun to see students share their interests and skills no matter the stage!

Go Hornets!

BOX TOPS COLLECTION

Box Tops for Education collection time is upon us! We have a great opportunity to raise some money through those little clippings. Many I suspect are already using the App to scan receipts as I see that we already have some money on there and it keeps rising, so thanks for your efforts! If you haven’t yet, download the app and/or more general info.

Despite the digital option, there are still some physical, clipped box tops out there, of course. We have permission from Principal Dommer to drop off these box tops at Hollymead on any supply/library/etc. pick-up days so when you come through, bring your box tops for the bin through the end of October. For this collection, any with a date of November 2020 and beyond are eligible. Please help out and have your box tops in an envelope or ziploc bag for ease of exchange. Sorting for eligible dates will also be especially appreciated this year.

This is a great way to raise some funds and help support our Hollymead School; thanks for your efforts!
